Last June 27 football became, as it usually happens in Italy, a mean of communication between a group of Italian boys living in Calco (LC) and a group of asylum seekers from Calco hosted by Progetto Itaca.
Ruggero, our operator in Calco who is also in contact with the entertainers in oratory, organized the event. He received help by the social service Assessor Antonia Fasoli and by Don Carlo, the priest of the city. The match was won by the team of asylum seekers. For all the players, at the end of the match, there was a buffet. Its purpose was to make our boys know the Italian cooking, while Italian boys had the opportunity to taste some coconut sweets prepared by Faty, another operator working for Progetto Itaca.
Massimiliano, one of the entertainers in oratory says: “The event has been a success and we all had fun. Everyone did well! The result was integration between our Country and migrants due to the buffet that followed the match. In fact, we had the possibility to taste a typical Senegalese sweet and we spent the night all together. Now, when we meet in the street we always greet each other!”
Massimiliano also says: “I think that this type of event should be more frequent. Ruggero and I were thinking about organizing a new football match with the participation of another team to repeat that beautiful experience.”
