Certificate delivering in Calco
On Saturday, June 10 thirteen boys living in Calco (CO) and hosted by Progetto Itaca were given a certificate of attendance. They look part in extra Italian lessons organized by Calco local government, Progetto Itaca and a group of voluntary people that provided their time and knowledge to integrate ordinary lessons held by CPIA in Lecco. In fact, every asylum seeker we host in Progetto Itaca is involved with Lecco CPIA in order to learn Italian and, when it is possible, they follow additional courses to improve and speed up the learning.
Giannino Cascardo, Franca Bonfanti, Giovanni Stella, Annisa Vercelloni, Antonia Grasso e Adelio Ponzoni (the voluntary teachers) said to be satisfied with the level of expression and comprehension that students reached. They told us the students were divided into two groups, each one with its own peculiarities, but everyone with the big desire to learn. They put themselves on the line about Italian grammar and verbs. They were interested in reading and in understanding the meaning of every single word. Some students made them notice because of their ability to write and to learn the art of calligraphy. It was also important for teachers to convey some basic rules of civic education, like for example to take off the heat when spaking or to look in the eyes people when shaking hands and to always be in time.
Stefano Motta, the major of the city, and Antonia Fasoli, the social services Assesor, were both present during the delivering. They were both pleased with the success of the project and with the perfect cooperation between voluntary teachers and CPIA. All that to create a coherent program to help asylum seekers in learning Italian language, one of the main points in their integration process.
Many students thanked with enthusiasm their teachers and declared to be ready to suceed in their reception project.
