Social Area

The social worker oversees all the phases of asylum seekers social inclusion. The objective is to make them independent and to encourage them to know their rights and duties as well as the services and opportunities our territory may offer. In order to increase their awareness of urban environment it is important to look at socio-cultural, recreational and sport activities, formal and informal, operating on the territory. Furthermore, socialization moments between our guests and local inhabitants are organized in our reception facilities to simplify inclusion. An example is the participation of asylum seekers hosted in Ballabio together with Ballabio inhabitants (mainly elementary school children) in a walk to make “Croce di Lampedusa” continue its journey according to the project “Portatela ovunque – Il Viaggio della Croce di Lampedusa”.
Moreover, the reception facility of Airuno (a state property taken from mafia) took part in an event organized by Arci in Lecco: a path by which 20 guys had the possibility to discover the lands taken from mafia through public initiatives and information meetings.

The social worker relats to existing realities to structure community service useful to support guests in their responsability process or to ease the meeting with member of the community.
Job autonomy passes, first of all, through the comprehension of which are guests’ expertise and qualifications. A help to write a curriculum up follows and then guests are enrolled in employement services to serach for a job. It is fundamental to give asylum seekers information about rights and duties of workers because they come from different realities and cultures: for example, for them it’s normal not to have a constant appointment or to be paid at he end of the day and not monthly.

Finally, a social worker is involved in making our guests acquire housing independence.
Therefore, s/he controls them to identify their dedication to improvement in order to send them living in a flat where they have the possibility to learn how to self-manage their lives.
